Today is Read Across America Day. Remember what a big event it was when you were in elementary school. Well some high schools continue the tradition. The students and staff at Allentown High School in New Jersey gathered together to celebrate the joy of reading and honor the late, great Dr. Seuss.
Now in its 15th year, the National Education Association sponsors this event on March, 2 the birthday of Dr. Seuss.Designed to encourage kids to discover the pleasure (maybe even the thrill) of reading, this year NEA’s Read Across America Day is expected to draw 45+ million participants. This year the book The Lorax (1971) by Theodor Seuss Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss), coinciding with Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s release of the movie based on the book, takes center stage with its message of preserving the environment.
