honest tea tests the honor of america with ‘free’ tea


To see how honest people were, Honest Tea set up unmanned pop-up stores around 30 cities this summer, asking people to pay $1 when they took a bottle of tea. They collected data from this social experiment and compiled their findings to create the National Honesty Index. The site features interactive infographics, which can be randomized, customized, and shared online.

They detail which cities were the most honest (Oakland and Salt Lake City) and which locations were the least honest (Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn), as well as other factors such as hair color, facial features, hobbies, and gender. Overall, this interesting social experiment indicates that people are more honest than perhaps we would assume.
