“Money, money, money, money all around. Gotta stack that money, this is how it’s going down.” This is the chorus of the music video “Time is Money,” in whih Syretha Shirley, a high school sophomore from Las Vegas, raps about checks, credit and debt.
Ms. Shirley, 16, is the winner of the Money Matters Music Mogul contest, sponsored by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the Charles Schwab Foundation.
The contest was held late last year to promote a teenage financial-education program that the Schwab foundation supports at Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide. Teenagers were asked to submit song lyrics that reflect “financial fitness” themes from the course. The songs were performed using background beats provided by a music producer, Kevin Cates, who is known as Khao.
