teen entrepreneurs strive toward sweet success


Chattanooga, Tennessee,Howard High School students D’Angelo Foster (right) and Derelle Roshell (left) are in the process of launching their own chocolate business.

Initially, the desire for free pizza is what motivated D’Angelo Foster to attend an after-school entrepreneurship class.

“They had free pizza every time the class would start,” he said. “I played it off like I wanted to do it, but it was just for the pizza.”

Then he threw out a business idea during a brainstorming session, but people laughed at the original suggestion. And that’s when his competitive spirit seemed to kick in.

“I had to prove myself right,” he said.

Now, Foster and his friend and business partner, Derelle Roshell, 16, are in the middle of implementing their vision—a chocolate company with a product for the “culturally aware.”
